Future of Work

<!–
<!–

In January, Meihui Bodane (2024 PMP Board Chair) and her team in North Carolina Department of Commerce’s Labor & Economic Analysis Division (NC LEAD) graciously hosted staff from the LMI Institue and PMP for a daylong discussion about LEAD’s efforts to provide data users with valuable LMI insights, improve state and regional employment projections, as well as produce innovative economic research on state and local labor markets.

Want to connect with our staff to discuss LMI work in your state and any recent successes or challenges? We’d love to hear from you! Contact Marty Romitti (mromitti@crec.net).

Future of Work Paper Series

<!–
<!–

This past spring, the LMI Institute and Projections Managing Partnership (PMP) convened a group of workforce and economic development scholars to discuss what they see as the most important trends and challenges we are facing when looking at the future of work in our country, as well as to provide recommendations for how public LMI data systems, particularly state projections analysts, can plan for and address these trends.

This month we spotlight a paper by Andrew Reamer focused on the expanding role of the Federal Government in industrial policy. In this report, Dr. Reamer describes several workforce development programs across seven federal agencies, including the program’s mission, objective, and point of contact.

North Dakota Unemployment Dashboard

<!–
<!–

North Dakota’s unemployment dashboard clearly shows not only the unemployment breakdown by county, but also by industry. Selecting a county on the dashboard will show its unemployment over time in one graphic, while showing which industries are facing unemployment in another. Selecting an industry will show its unemployment over time as well. Visualizations are not limited to industry, but also occupation, age, and racial data. This data is updated every Thursday.

Virginia’s Career Quarterly Newsletter

The Career Quarterly Newsletter concisely gives an update on the state of the labor market in Virginia and current occupation projections. Each newsletter then goes on to highlight a new piece of information, either breaking down projections by education level, or doing a deep dive into one or two different career paths.

Does your state have a projections dashboard?

Share it with us! We’d love to see it and feature it in the monthly LMI Insider.
