Preliminary Agenda

Regional competitiveness relies heavily on the region’s ability to find and produce workers with the skills required of their critical industries. State and regional researchers must be able to gather and analyze the information needed to guide and support efforts to address these workforce challenges facing the critical industries that drive their economy. Through a series of lectures, exercise and discussions, this session will introduce participants not only to the basic tools of regional workforce analysis, but also to newer tools that allow researchers to better understand the credentials and certifications that workers need to enter and advance in the region’s emerging occupations.

At the end of this session, workshop participants will walk away with:

• Greater knowledge of common tools to analyze their state or region’s critical skill needs,
• Introduction to newer resources that track relevant credentials and certifications,
• A better understanding about how to structure their organization’s workforce research efforts in order to produce a more compelling and actionable analysis for their region, and
• The opportunity to discuss their current analytical challenges with other participants and knowledgeable instructors.
