PMP Summit + Free Tableau License
Supported in part by the LMI Institute, the Projections Managing Partnership (PMP) annual Summit is September 20 – 23, 2021 from 1:00 PM – 4:30 PM ET each afternoon. This year’s theme focuses on creating Meaningful Projections in Uncertain Times.
Keynotes will include Federal leaders from BLS and ETA and will allow projections analysts to hear the latest updates directly from these partners. Special time will be devoted to meeting with the Utah Team to learn about updates in Report Manager and Projections Suite, along with other forthcoming features.
Additionally, through the PMP, all states are offered one free Tableau license for state projections analysts. During the Summit, we will kick off a Tableau community of practice and share how to make the most of the Projections Suite tools already available. Contact LMI Institute staff if you’d like to request a license for one of your state projections analysts.

The Future of Work: What Projections Analysts Can Learn from Sociology
On August 25, Jeff Rosenthal, Senior Labor Market Analyst for the North Carolina Department of Commerce, drew on his training as a sociologist in a pre-conference presentation to PMP analysts on the future of work. Jeff provided a crash course on the sociology of work—how it’s organized, who does it, and where it’s done—to guide fresh, critical thinking on post-pandemic trends to watch. View this 90-minute talk for a journey through the theories that have shaped how we define modern labor markets—and a challenge to apply “sociological imagination” to the historic changes we’re witnessing. At the conclusion of Jeff’s talk, Lee Winkler, CREC research analyst, presents a sneak preview of the PMP Summit session on the “Automation Exposure Scores,” an index being developed to assess the likely impacts of automation technologies on labor markets.
“We are living a part of history right now; we’re taking a moving picture…. To the degree to which we can think about these things and understand [them], we will do better projections.” –Jeff Rosenthal
