The 2022 LMI Institute Forum planned to be in Columbus, Ohio is nine months away and the call for proposals and sessions is open! We want to hear from you about your most recent projects or studies.
This year’s theme is The Road Ahead: Using Data to Pave the Way – we are interested in learning about the future of local communities, workforce research, and the larger direction of the field in general. What does a prosperous future for everyone look like? How do we use data to promote inclusive economic growth and support a diverse workforce? How does this create opportunities for local businesses, economies, and residents?
We can’t wait to hear from you!

“What we produced previously [for Ohio’s unemployment insurance claims data] were static [PDF] reports. During COVID we recognized there was a need for a more dynamic tool for display of our claims information. So, we worked with Ohio State University to develop the new unemployment claims dashboard….With this interactive tool, you can get the demographic information for the claims at the county level—for initial claims and for certified claims. And you can get it by week, whereas with the static reports you could only get it by month.” – Coretta Pettway

The Projections Managing Partnership (PMP) serves as a central hub and primary technical assistance resource for state analysts as they develop and deliver high-quality state and local employment projections. This year’s PMP Summit offered an exciting week hearing from federal agency partners and funders, technical leads from various states providing training and best practices examples, and a special keynote on the Future of Work spotlighting the trucking and logistics sector.
Dr. Allison Forbes, Vice President of Research at the Center for Regional Economic Competitiveness moderated a conversation with Dr. Steve Viscelli, sociology professor at the University of Pennsylvania and author of The Big Rig: Trucking and the Decline of the American Dream. In this spotlight on the trucking and logistics industry, Dr. Viscelli examined approaches projections analysts can use to deepen their understanding of any fast-evolving industry sector.
If you missed it or would like to watch again, take a look at the session!
