The 65th annual LMI Institute Forum and C2ER Conference is less than two weeks away in Sacramento, California! Be sure to take a look at the agenda, if you haven’t already: between pre-conference trainings on May 27th, and over a hundred speakers across dozens of sessions from May 28th– 30th, there’s plenty of opportunities for LMI and workforce development professionals to do and learn. There will also be dedicated opportunities for LMI Directors to learn from and collaborate with colleagues from other states, as well as an opportunity to hear directly from leaders at the Census Bureau, Bureau of Labor Statistics, and Bureau of Economic Analysis about changes in Washington, D.C.

PREPARING AMERICANS FOR HIGH-PAYING SKILLED TRADE JOBS OF THE FUTURE

On April 23rd the President signed Executive Order (EO) 14278, Preparing Americans for High-Paying Skilled Trade Jobs of the Future. This EO calls for a full review of existing federal workforce policies leading to a unified federal strategy on education and training, as well as a plan to increase registered apprenticeships. Of course, this EO has the potential for significant impacts on the LMI ecosystem, particularly an opportunity for state LMI offices to provide data insights to inform the development of targeted training programs and apprenticeships.
We will continue to track related developments as well as share any reports or plans when they are published.

Alaska publishes a monthly Economic Trends Magazine that goes back decades. The magazine opens with a letter from the Commissioner and includes a few deeper dive topic articles before ending with the ‘Gauging the Economy’ section going over the latest economic indicators. Past issues of the magazine are searchable going back to 1961, providing a fascinating view of how Alaska’s economy has evolved over the years.

Michigan’s Registered Apprenticeship Dashboard is an interactive tool to discover statewide, regional, and occupational data on Michigan registered apprenticeships. This tool is based on data from both RAPIDS and UI Wage Records and splits up the data by both Michigan Prosperity Regions and MichiganWorks Regions.
