The LMI Institute extends heartfelt thanks to all speakers, attendees, and guests who joined us in Sacramento last month. It was an exceptional week of shared learning, collaboration, and leadership. We are especially grateful to the federal statistical leaders who participated and reaffirmed their commitment to delivering secure, accurate, and reliable public data.

The FY 2026 Budget Appendix makes major changes to the Census Bureau, Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA), and Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). The biggest change is that the budget would move the BLS from the Department of Labor, instead the three agencies would be under one Undersecretary at the Department of Commerce. This would require legislative as well as budget changes as the legal statutes governing the agency and its data management systems are distinct from those at Commerce.
<!– |
<!– |
Staffing cuts further complicate the outlook. The BLS staff faces a decline of 8%, while the BEA is facing a 17% drop in staff. While Census could see a slight gain (3%) in staff, the staff working on the periodic surveys would decline by 2%, with more positions shifting to reimbursable funding.
<!– |
<!– |
Actual staffing may fall further due to retirements, voluntary separations, and a hiring freeze. Since late 2024, the three agencies have already lost 10–20% of their workforce.

Top Jobs Indiana goes beyond a simple list of in demand jobs. It is a database that is filterable and sortable by demand outlook, education level, salary, career cluster, and location in Indiana. Each job has a link to job postings, one to training opportunities in the state, and a video explaining more about the profession. Further, you can select each job title to get even more information: job description, essential skills, top duties and responsibilities, and related certifications or licenses.
