Happy 2025! As part of the LMI Institute and PMP’s Data User Insights project, last year we began updating the wealth of resources offered on the LMI website for state agencies and data users looking to better understand LMI and how it is used. Beginning with the Education and Workforce Data Sources section, this project will continue through the year, so keep checking back for more updates!
We will also be adding new tip sheets for LMI practitioners interested in better using or communicating data. Inspired by the ongoing Data User Insights project, the first tip sheet is about designing interactive data dashboards for maximum impact for your users. Next up will be a tip sheet on soliciting effective user engagement and feedback.

As required by the CHIPS Act, the NSF is undergoing a demonstration project for a National Secure Data Service (NSDS). This would act as a government-wide set of shared services for data, acting as a hub and directory for looking for data, without housing it. This project has a five-year demonstration timeline that is currently in the use case and feasibility studies phase, with a soft launch goal of 2027. Current demonstration projects are being run through America’s Data Hub Consortium. This service is still in development and ideas are welcome. If you have an idea or insight to how this service could be used or developed please click here to submit them.

One interesting tool Colorado LMI has to help workers find jobs is their pocket resumes. These documents, which are available in both English and Spanish in .pdf and .doc form. These pocket resumes have job interview tips, questions to expect, and links to the OES wage ranges in Colorado. They also act as a form-fillable resume, outlining what information should go where and how to explain the worker’s past experience to potential future employers.

New Mexico’s Career Exploration tool is a thorough, multistep tool that works through workers interests, values, and budget needs to help sort through potential occupations. The tool will then help them compare the different occupations, as well as help them plan for the needed steps (education, internships, etc.) required for that occupation.
You can access the tool using the “Career Exploration” link at the bottom of the page.

Does your state have a projections dashboard?
Share it with us! We’d love to see it and feature it in the monthly LMI Insider.
