Demand for interactive data visualizations and tools in the Labor Market Information space is growing. The increasing role of text elements as variables to display in these designs create challenges for designers depending on the platform used. Whether you query data internally or present information to customers, having user and developer friendly tools are a must.
The California Employment Development Department’s Labor Market Information Division developed a new interactive Occupational Guide that will be deployed on their website using Microsoft Power BI® (part of the Power Platform®). The Guide leverages Power BI’s functionalities to present labor market, education provider, and occupational profile information in an easy to navigate format.
Participants will be introduced to the Power BI software through a demonstration of the Occupational Guide, in design and publish mode (using free desktop design products and the publish-to-web service available through Microsoft 365 licenses). Key features that will be covered include: layout and design options (including mobile view), customizability of visual elements, accessibility compliance, and the ability to design multi-page visuals that users can export to PDF and other formats.
